Dar es Salaam. Preparations are in full swing for the YAS Zanzibar International Marathon 2025, set to take place on November 23, 2025 with organisers pledging a bigger, more connected, and more impactful event that blends sport, technology, and tourism.

Launched in partnership with YAS and Mixx, this year’s marathon carries the inspiring theme “Kila Hatua ni Spesho” (Every Step Counts), symbolising progress, unity, and the value of individual effort.

YAS Tanzania’s Corporate Communications and PR Manager, Ms Christina Murimi

YAS Tanzania’s Corporate Communications and PR Manager, Ms Christina Murimi, said the 2025 edition aims to promote health, tourism, and community development through innovation and sustainable partnerships.

“Our theme, ‘Kila Hatua ni Spesho,’ reminds us that every step we take — whether in running, making life choices, or pursuing personal goals — carries meaning. Each step is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference,” said Ms Murimi.

This year’s race will feature 5km, 10km, and 21km categories, with all registrations and payments processed exclusively through the Mixx digital platform.

The platform streamlines the process, providing participants with instant confirmation codes, bib numbers, and event schedules.

The Race Committee Chairman, Mr Musa Ibrahim Hassan, said the marathon is more than a sporting event, describing it as a platform for unity and a celebration of Zanzibar’s beauty and heritage.

“Our goal is to create an experience that connects people of all ages and walks of life. Every participant becomes part of Zanzibar’s bigger story – one of health, unity, and progress,” he stated.

Mr Hassan added that the marathon continues to cement Zanzibar’s reputation as a premier sports tourism destination, attracting both local and international runners eager to explore the island’s scenic routes, culture, and hospitality.

In line with its digital agenda, YAS is also expanding its 4G and 5G network infrastructure across Unguja and Pemba, underscoring its commitment to a connected and inclusive future.

Through the marathon, the company aims to demonstrate how technology can enhance wellbeing, community empowerment, and sustainable development.

Organisers are encouraging both Tanzanians and international visitors to register early and be part of this signature event that celebrates the spirit of sport, tourism, and innovation.
