Arusha leading golfer claims Lions Club trophy

Arusha. Prominent golfer Ris Shah emerged as the overall winner of the Lions Club of Arusha Golf Tournament after scoring 38 stable ford points in 18 holes on Monday evening.
The tournament was organised by the Lions Club to raise funds for people with vision disabilities in Arusha. Shah, however, did not win it easily as he tied with Tony Frisby on points. Nonetheless, the former took the top spot on a count back decision.
The B Division trophy went to Beatus Kasegenya who carded 39 points followed by Faustine Ruta with 38. The winner in the C Division was Harbajan Chadha who managed to chalk 37 points as Bharesh Gohil settled for the second place with 35.
In the ladies event, Lucy Vrontamitis managed to clinch the trophy after hauling 38 points as pre-tournament favourite Neema Olomi took the runner-up slot with 37 points, leaving five others on wild goose chase.
Nathwan Aayusha won the junior competition after scoring 40 points followed by Aryan Aggarwal who returned 37 points. Speaking after being declared the overall winner, Shah hailed all competitors who turn up for the event, adding in jest that without them he would not have finished at the top.
“I am happy for this win. It will help me keep training hard with a view to winning more forthcoming titles,” said Shah. “All competitors did well at the event and without them I would not have won this title.”
Besides, Shah called on more sponsors to come forward and help organise such tournaments, for they will enable the Arusha golfers to gauge their skills against top players on a regular basis. “We really need such tournaments regularly in Arusha. I urge sponsors to consider supporting more golf events because it will help us at the national and international championships,” he added.
