Azam whip Esperance in Dar

Dar es Salaam. Azam FC used well their home ground advantage to beat Esperance of Tunisia 2-1 in the second round of first leg tie of CAF Confederation Cup at Chamazi ground.

Azam’s should thank their youthful strikers, Farid Musa and Ramadhani Singano alias Messi for scoring important goals.

The visitors were leading 1-0 at the breather before the home boys struck twice on resumption to bag three important points.

Azam’s English coach, Stewart Hall said that he was delighted by the win and now concentrate on the return leg.

“We made the mistakes in the wee hours of the match by allowing our opponents to control the match”,

“But we later came to our best level and pushed for goals”,

“Iam happy with the results”,

“I know that the return leg will be tough but I believe we will overshadow them again at their home soil”, said Hall. Esperance scored their lone goal in the 33rd through Haithem Jouini after he headed home off a cross by Ilheb Mbaark.

Azam, despite the goal, fought hard and missed a number of open scoring chances.

Azam’s Ivorian Kipre Tchetche missed a goal in the 36th minute after his shot went over the bar.

Hall made changes, calling out Michael Balou in favour of Frank Domayo. Farid Mussa equalized in the 68th minute with a close volley off a short pass by Singano.Singano was on the mark in the 70th minute to score home the winner off a good coordination with Mussa.Despite Azam’s FC sensational defender, Ivorian Serge Wawa was sent out in the wee hours because of injury, the ice cream makers stood firm to thwart all dangerous moves.
