Dar es Salaam. Argentine boxer Jose Carlos Paz has arrived in the country full of confidence that he will bag a knockout win against his opponent, Hassan Mwakinyo.

The two are set to get into the ring on November 13 with Mwakinyo defending his World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental super welterweight title against Paz at Next Door Arena in Dar es Salaam.

Paz arrived at  the Julius Nyerere International Airport where he was welcomed by Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC) secretary general Yahya Poli and Jackson Group Sports head of Sports Department Don Halla.

Paz, who is accompanied by his father-cum-trainer, Alberto Ramon Paz, said he has travelled all the way from Argentina to win the title.

“I had travelled by bus before I took a two-day flight to Tanzania. I am not here as a tourist at all, but a boxer to take the belt back home,” said Paz.

He said of Mwakinyo as a strong boxer, whom he will not underestimate when they lock horns in the bout organised by Jackson Group Sports and sponsored by Colosseum Hotel.

The boxer’s trainer, Alberto Ramon Paz, said, “Being a champion is a sign that Mwakinyo is strong, I have observed him and that’s why we are here very early to acclimatize.”

Supporting bouts will involve former champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Fatuma Zarika of Kenya. Zarika will fight Patience Mastara of Zimbabwe while Zulfa Yusuph Macho will take on Alice Mbewe, also from Zimbabwe.

Entrance fees have been pegged at Sh150,000 for normal seats with tables to Sh3 million for 10 persons, who will have access to the ringside.

The fight promoter Kelvin Twissa said they are in partnership with online ticketing experts, Nilipe APP and Selcom Huduma agents. Ticket sales are set to go live with effect from Friday November 6.

“This is the perfect time to start selling tickets to the public. We are looking forward to attracting an audience that is ready to experience a unique VIP live boxing event,” said Twissa.
