Tanzania Prisons piled the pressure on Ruvu Shooting coach Abdulmutik Haji after a 1-0 win over the army team in the Mainland Premier League match yesterday.

Striker Mohammed Rashid scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute at the Sokoine Memorial Stadium in Mbeya.

The defeat left Ruvu Shooting stuck in the elite league relegation zone.

Following the victor, Prisons now sit fifth in the league table with 13 points from seven games.

The Mbeya-based side tie on 13 points with big-spending Singida United, but the latter are ahead on goal difference.

It may be too early to predict, but a look at the 16-team league table suggests that Ruvu Shooting will likely lose their Premiership status at the end of the season.

They have remained at the bottom of the league since the start of the 2017/18 season. They have only five points from eight matches. Stand United and Majimaji also have five points each from as many outings.

In yesterday’s match, Prisons started forcefully and went close several times.

Their efforts paid off in the 19th minute when Rashid score the match-winner, his fifth this season.
