Twiga Stars start preps for Rwanda

- Speaking with The Citizen, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) secretary general, Mwesigwa Celestine said that the names of the players who will be in the camp would be announced this week by the Twiga Stars head coach, Nasra Juma.
Dar es Salaam. The national women’s football team, dubbed Twiga Stars will start residential camp on Friday ahead of their international friendly match against Rwanda’s counterparts, She-Amavubi on July 17.
Speaking with The Citizen, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) secretary general, Mwesigwa Celestine said that the names of the players who will be in the camp would be announced this week by the Twiga Stars head coach, Nasra Juma.
Mwesigwa said the match is very important for Twiga Stars in order to improve their status in women football as well as standard of the team players.
He said the match is part of activities to mark the 2016 African Union Summit, which will be held in Kigali from July 10-18.
“We are now in camp preparations, we expect to stat on Friday under head coach, Nasra Juma, we are looking for funds as you know the team have no sponsor to facilitate training as well as matches,” said Mwesigwa.
He said the match is very important as the players would also gauge their talents ahead of the inaugural Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Women Championship to take place in Uganda next month. The tournament is expecting to feature 12 Cecafa zone countries including Rwanda.
Other countries are Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Sudan and the horn of Africa countries – Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea.
Twiga Stars counterparts She-Amavubi are expected to be assembled soon to begin intensive preparations ahead of the proposed friendly tie.
The team has been coached by ASA Kigali trainer, Grace Nyinawumuntu. Twiga Stars made a brave exit to the Africa Women Cup of Nations after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Zimbabwe’s Might Warriors in March.
