Dar es Salaam. The prospect of Simba Sports Club holding its general election on Sunday has been thrown in limbo.
A group of Simba members took matters to the High Court yesterday, seeking a temporary injunction of the elections that have been blemished by numerous objections.
The move came just hours after the Simba electoral committee chairman, Damas Ndumbaro, unveiled the final list of aspirants at the club’s headquarters.
The applicants, Josephat Waryoba, Said Monero and Hassan Hassan, who claim to represent 66 other members, filed the application under a certificate of urgency against Simba president and registered trustees.
Through their advocate, Revocatus Kuuli, the applicants are asking the court to temporarily suspend the elections until another application in which they ask the court to allow them to file a representative suit is heard and determined.
In their joint affidavit, the applicants intend to sue the Simba president and its registered trustees for violating the club’s constitution and electoral process.
They said the lawyer had already been instructed to prepare the intended plaint.
They further stated that, the second applicant Monero is one of the club members whose appeal awaits the ethics committee ruling and that if left undetermined until after the planned Sunday elections, the case would be nugatory.
At the club headquarters, Ndumbaro released 27 names of members who have been cleared to contest various positions on Sunday.
The list, however, does not include Michael Wambura who has been disqualified twice despite clearance by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).
The names of the candidates are; Evans Aveva and Andrew Tupa who will vie for the post of president while aspirants for the vice president position are Swed Mkwabi, Bundala Kabulwa, Geoffrey Nyange and Jamhuri Kihwelo.
Aspirants eyeing posts in the executive committee are Said Tulliy, Yasini Mwete, Ally Suru, Rodney Chiduo, Said Pamba, Ally Chaurembo, Abdulhamid Mshangama, Chano Almasi, Damian Manembe, Ibrahim Masoud, Kajuna Noor, Hamisi Mkoma, Alfred Elia and Saidi Kubenea.
Also in the list are Idd Mkamballah, Juma Mussa, Maulid Abdallah, Collin Frisch, Asha Muhaji, Amina Poyo and Jasmine Badour.
