Arusha. Pops Mand maintained his winning streak at a golf competition held at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) course on Sunday.

Mand won the trophy after overcoming Richard Gomes, Sigh Prabvir and Madina Iddi in Division A.

The handicap 11 winner emerged the overall winner of the 18-hole stable ford event after carding four under 40 points followed by Gomes who scored 37 points.

Speaking after being declared the winner, Mand said he was happy with his performance and vowed to train hard so as to keep on winning titles. “It was really a difficult competition, but very thrilling. I am happy with the way I played today (Sunday) and I am looking forward to winning more titles,” said the overall winner.

The only lady in the tournament– national team captain Madina Iddi was playing off handicap 2 and managed to score 31 points. She finished in the fourth position.

Madina was not impressed by her score and told The Citizen that she will go back to the drawing board in a bid to regain her best form.

“My form has dipped critically. I am an unhappy golfer today, but I have to do something to regain my form,” a visibly upset Madina said in a low tone. She added: “I have to go back to the basics and train as hard as possible. I have been out of action for so long, so that has affected my game completely.”

The 18-hole stable ford tournament saw Vrontamitis Lusy [handicap 17] take the Division B trophy after returning 40 points while Matsuoka settled for the second spot with 39 points.

In the Division C, Yusufali Habib was the winner after notching 34 points while Manabhai Ashik scored 33 points to finish second.

“I played really good golf today and everything was just going right for me on the course,” a delighted Habib said.

“This is the course I would always like to play on because its greens are perfect and holding well,” Habib added.
