CAF moves Confederation Cup final to Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium

Dar es Salaam. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Final between Tanzania’s Simba SC and Morocco’s RS Berkane will be held at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on May 25, 2025, instead of the initially anticipated Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
In a letter addressed to Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) General Secretary Wilfred Kidao and copied to Simba SC, CAF said the decision follows detailed technical assessments conducted by its international pitch consultants. The assessments took into account the current rainy season across parts of Tanzania.
“From a purely technical standpoint, it has been strongly recommended that the final be held at Amman Stadium in Zanzibar,” the statement reads. “This decision was made with the sole objective of ensuring the best possible sporting conditions and experience for the players and fans.”
CAF also took the opportunity to extend its sincere gratitude to the TFF, the Government of Tanzania, and other stakeholders for their collaboration in the preparations for the historic final. The body commended TFF President Wallace Karia for his leadership during the planning process.
“This is in no way a reflection of the outstanding efforts made by the TFF and its leadership, for which we remain deeply grateful,” wrote CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba.
The final is set to be a landmark event, marking the first time that Zanzibar will host a CAF interclub final. It also reflects growing confidence in the islands’ ability to stage high-profile sporting events.
Simba SC, who booked their place in the final after a thrilling semifinal run, will be seeking to make history by becoming the first Tanzanian club to lift a continental title. Their North African opponents, RS Berkane, are two-time Confederation Cup champions and bring significant experience to the clash.
