Dar es Salaam. One of the country’s most famous rugby clubs, Dar Leopards RFC, will  face Nairobi’s Les Gaulois in an international rugby friendly match on May 31, 2025.

The highly anticipated fixture will take place at the University of Dar es Salaam ground, with kickoff scheduled for 3pm. The match has been sponsored by Clyde and Co.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Dar Leopards RFC chairman Gustav Mphusu said that all preparations for the match have been finalized, setting the stage for an exciting display of skill and sportsmanship.

“Our players are in top morale and have been working hard in training,” said Mphusu.

“We are ready for the challenge and looking forward to putting on a great performance.

I call upon all rugby fans in Dar es Salaam to come in large numbers and witness this international showdown,” he added.

Dar Leopards, one of Tanzania’s most well-known rugby clubs, will field a dynamic squad composed of both experienced players and young talents making their international debuts.

Mphusu expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, saying the blend of youth and experience will be key in matching up against the visiting Kenyan side.

“Nairobi’s Les Gaulois are a strong team that competes in Kenya’s top-tier league. It’s going to be a tough match, but our boys are prepared. We’ve had intensive training sessions, and I’m confident we’ll deliver a performance that fans can be proud of,” he said.

Les Gaulois are well-known in East Africa’s rugby circuit for their physicality, tactical discipline, and competitive edge.

Their visit marks another important step in strengthening rugby ties between Kenya and Tanzania while giving players from both sides valuable international experience.

This fixture is also expected to contribute to the development of rugby in Tanzania, offering local players exposure to high-level competition and inspiring young athletes to take up the sport.

The match at UDSM will be open to fans, and Dar Leopards are hoping for strong home support to cheer them on against their formidable opponents.

Tomorrow’s international friendly is more than just a game; it is a celebration of rugby, unity, and regional sportsmanship.

Fans can expect an afternoon filled with intense tackles, strategic play, and passionate performances from both teams.
