Zanzibar. Coach Zradvko Logarusic’s charges will be subjected to yet another test today when Mainland giants Simba take on Uganda’s URA in a semi-final of the Mapinduzi Cup championship.
The anxiously awaited showdown kicks off at 8pm at the Amaan Stadium. It will be preceded by the first semi-final between Azam FC and KCC of Uganda, which starts at 4pm.
Simba cruised into the last four with a deserved 2-0 win over hosts Chuoni FC in the second quarter final played on Wednesday night at Amaan Stadium.
A Ramadhan Singano brace in the 47th and 59th minutes fired the Msimbazi Reds into the crucial victory they dominated.
In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, Logarusic predicted a tough match but remained optimistic that it will produce positive results for his team after seeing his boys silence Chuoni FC.
The coach, who was visibly pleased with the results, said the victory was a sign of better things to come for his team.
“Our target is to return to Dar es Salaam with the trophy, our focus is now on tomorrow’s (today’s) match,” he said.
A win for Simba would be a sweet revenge against URA who thumped them 2-1 in an international friendly match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in July, last year.
URA’s Fenny Ally and Owen Kasule are among players Logarusic’s boys must mark tightly today if they are to make it to the final. The final will take place on January 13 at the same venue.
In Wednesday’s other quarter final games, Azam FC beat Spice Cloves 2-0 thanks to Aggrey Morris and Waziri Salum second half strikes.
KCC FC and URA stormed into the semi-finals after overcoming Kenya’s Tusker FC and hosts KMKM respectively.
KCC beat the former Kenya Champions 4-3 on penalties following a goal-less draw in the normal 90 minutes at the Amaan Stadium.
Tony Odur, Habib Kavuma, Steven Bengo and custodian Jamal Salim scored for KCC in the post-match shootouts.
As for URA FC, midfielder Owen Kasule scored the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute to down home team KMKM.
