What you need to know:

  • According to the Academy’s Managing Director, Agapiti Manday, the players divided into under-16 and under-18 categories, will first compete in the Gothia Cup, which kicks off today, July 14, 2025, and runs through July 19 in Gothenburg, Sweden

Dar es Salaam. A total of 38 young footballers from the One Tanzanite Football Academy are set to represent Tanzania on the international stage as they participate in two of the world’s most renowned youth football tournaments the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Dana Cup in Denmark.
According to the Academy’s Managing Director, Agapiti Manday, the players divided into under-16 and under-18 categories, will first compete in the Gothia Cup, which kicks off today, July 13, and runs through July 19 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Following the Swedish leg of their European journey, the squad will travel to Hjørring, Denmark, to take part in the Dana Cup, scheduled from July 21 to 26.
The team is under the guidance of four coaches: Hansi Erasto, Godfrey Ngonyani, and Adam Mwakibibi, all of whom have been instrumental in shaping the players both technically and mentally in preparation for the international challenge.

Manday highlighted that participating in the Gothia and Dana Cups is more than just a sporting opportunity—it is a life-changing experience for these young athletes.
“These tournaments bring together thousands of talented young footballers from around the world,” he said.

“They provide a global platform not only to showcase skill and talent but also to connect with professional scouting networks and football development programmes.”

What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is the background of the players. Over 95 percent of the boys enrolled at One Tanzanite Football Academy come from underprivileged communities.

For many, this trip marks their first-ever flight and their first time representing Tanzania outside of the country.

“The journey these young men are embarking on is not just about football—it’s a symbol of hope, dedication, and what is possible when community support meets determination,” said Manday.

The milestone has only been made possible through the generosity of committed partners and sponsors.

The academy extended its deepest appreciation to ASAS Group of Companies, CRDB Foundation, and GSM Group, whose support has turned dreams into reality for these aspiring footballers.

“We are especially grateful to Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, for her steadfast support of youth empowerment through sports,” said Manday.

“Her leadership continues to inspire the next generation.”
He also thanked Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for their facilitation, encouragement, and ongoing support throughout the academy’s journey.

As the young players prepare to take on top talent from across the globe, Manday expressed confidence in their potential to raise Tanzania’s profile in international youth football.

“We are optimistic and ready to fly the Tanzanian flag high in both Sweden and Denmark,” he said.

Manday concluded with a call to action for more companies, institutions, and individuals to step forward and invest in the dreams of Tanzania’s youth through sports.

“By supporting initiatives like this, we can identify and nurture future stars while also building a stronger, more united nation,” he emphasised.

“It is through football and other sports that we can transform lives, promote discipline, and instil values that go far beyond the pitch.”

With the eyes of Europe and beyond on the Gothia and Dana Cups, all of Tanzania will be rooting for the One Tanzanite Football Academy squad as they carry not only the ball, but the hopes of a nation.
