Dar es Salaam. The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has announced that the official awards ceremony for the 2024 PBZ Premier League champions will take place on July 6 at the Golden Tulip Hotel.
Speaking to The Citizen, ZFF Secretary General Hussein Ahmada Vuai confirmed that this year’s league title has been claimed by Mlandege FC, who will receive a cash prize of Sh50 million during the prestigious event.
Despite tying on points with second-place KVZ, both collecting 63 points from 30 matches, Mlandege secured the title thanks to a superior goal difference.
The newly crowned champions finished the season with an impressive goal difference of 46, while KVZ managed 23.
“This season has been highly competitive, and it was only goal difference that separated the top two teams,” said Vuai.
“Mlandege showed consistency and attacking power throughout the campaign and deserve the crown.”
KVZ, finishing second, will receive Sh30 million as a reward for their strong performance throughout the season.
The third-place finish went to Mafunzo FC, who accumulated 55 points and will be awarded Sh10 million.
Close behind, Mwembe Makumbi also ended the season with 55 points but took fourth place due to an inferior goal difference, securing Sh5 million in prize money.
Vuai also revealed that Mlandege striker Abdallah Idd Mtumwa, popularly known as Pina, has won the golden boot after scoring 21 goals this season.
“Pina has been a key player in Mlandege’s success and deserves the golden boot for his goal-scoring exploits,” Vuai said.
The July 6 awards ceremony is expected to bring together key football stakeholders in Zanzibar, including club officials, players, coaches, and government representatives.
The event aims to recognize outstanding performances in the league and promote the development of football in the region.
Vuai noted that the federation is working to make the ceremony a memorable event and to strengthen the league’s stature both locally and internationally.
“We want to honor excellence and motivate our teams to perform even better in the coming seasons,” he concluded.
With another thrilling season in the books, Zanzibar's football fans will now look forward to the awards night that promises to be a celebration of talent, determination, and sportsmanship.
