Tanzania can do well at international level: Penny

Penny said that during a special swimming clinic organized by Dar Swim Club held at the Dar es Salaam International Academy (DIA).

Dar es Salaam. Olympic gold medallist in the breaststrokes style and the world’s greatest former swimmer, Penelope “Penny” Heyns, has said Tanzania can do well in international competitions should young talented swimmers be developed.

Penny said that during a special swimming clinic organized by Dar Swim Club held at the Dar es Salaam International Academy (DIA).

The clinic was sponsored by Best Western Coral Beach Hotel, Europcar, who are the main sponsors, Warere Beach Hotel, Coca-Cola, Pyramid Consumers, Waterfront Restaurant and Karambezi Restaurant.

Also in the list of sponsors are Havana Restaurant, Southern Sun, Lemon Spa, The Butcher Shop, InStyle Hair and Beauty Salon, Zen Spa, Shooters Grill, Capetown Fish Market, Moti Mahal Restaurant and Ngalawa Seafront Restaurant.

Penny said that she was highly impressed with the local swimmers, who have shown great improvement compared to past years.

“This is the second time for me to train Dar Swim Club swimmers and coaches. “I was here last year. I met swimmers who attended my clinic. I am very proud to see their progress,” said Penny.

She said that many swimmers have improved their standard and managed to perform well in and outside the country. “This is module 2 of my previous clinic, its my hope that the swimmers will improve more,” she said.

Penny believes that Tanzania will shine at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and the world championship should the local swimmers be well prepared.

“I am extremely satisfied with the standard shown by the young swimmers.”

“They have improved a lot and will be world’s class swimmers to emulate me as their real example,” she said.

Dar Swim Club secretary general, Inviolata Itatiro, thanked Penny for accepting their invitation to come to the country.

Inviolata said their intention of bringing Penny to Tanzania was to see swimming being developed to the international level of competition.
