Yanga in easy Kagame Cup group

Dar es Salaam. Mainland giants Young Africans have been handled what many might consider to be a fair draw in the 2014 East and Central Africa Club Championship (Kagame Cup).
They have been placed in Group A together with Rayon Sport of Rwanda, Ethiopia’s Coffee FC, KMKM of Zanzibar and South Sudan’s Atlbara in the tournament scheduled for next month in Kigali, Rwanda.
The tournament which has attracted a record 14 clubs, will kick-off on August 8 and not 9 as earlier announced. It will end on August 24, one day more from the earlier schedule. A total of 34 matches will be telecast live by Supersport and will be staged at Amahoro and Nyamirambo stadiums in Rwanda.
President Kagame of Rwanda, who is also patron of Cecafa, has already committed $60,000 prize money and the ministry responsible for sports and other agencies are sponsoring the tournament.
The draw for the 40th edition of the regional championship also known as Cecafa Kagame Cup, was done at the Rwanda Football Federation headquarters in Kigali yesterday evening.
Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye told The Citizen on Saturday by phone from Kigali yesterday that, several companies in Rwanda have pledged their total support for the event which will coincide with the 20th anniversary of Rwanda genocide. “Supersport, long time Cecafa partners, is one of the sponsors and will beam live all the matches.
“The fixtures and time schedules will be released next week,” he said.
Cecafa Cup draw:
Group A: Yanga (Tanzania), Rayon Sport (Rwanda), Coffee (Ethiopia), Atlbara (South Sudan) and KMKM (Zanzibar).
Group B: Gor Mahia (Kenya), KCCA (Uganda), APR (Rwanda), Telecom (Djibouti) and Flambeau (Burundi).
Group C: Vital ‘O’ (Burundi), El Merreikh (Sudan), Police (Rwanda) and Benadeir (Somalia).
