Yanga march on as Simba gunned down

Dar es Salaam. Simon Msuva came off the bench to score a brace that inspired Young Africans to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Toto Africans at the National Stadium yesterday.

The visitors, who showed some glimpse of brilliance in the first half, scored their consolation goal in the 55th minute through Miraj Athumani, who took full advantage of a goalkeeping error by Ali Mustafa.
Yanga’s lead, however, may be trimmed should Azam FC win their today’s assignment.

In Tanga, Coastal Union celebrated their first victory of the new season after registering a hard-fought 1-0 win over free-falling Kagera Sugar.
Yusuf Chuma scored the solitary goal that went to the Coastal Union’s history books for it was also the team’s first after eight matches.
At the National Stadium, Yanga looked superior right from the outset and almost opened the score as early as the first minute, but Tambwe could not direct the ball home. Geoffrey Mwashiuya attempted an ambitious shot four minutes later, but it hit Tambwe and went straight into Toto Africans shot-stopper’s hands.
Yanga poured forward in the ninth minute and Abdul showed his class with a long-range shot that flew directly into Toto Africans net.
Donald Ngoma and Thabani Kamusoko could have put the game beyond the visitors’ reach in the first 20 minutes, but fluffed the chances that came their way.
Toto Africans came into the game midway through the first half, but their strikers lacked precision.
Yanga were leading 1-0 at the interval, but could have had a 2-0 cushion had Ngoma scored from a spot kick minutes before halftime.
After recess, Abdul was called off and his place was taken by Msuva who scored barely three minutes after his introduction.
Athumani reduced the deficit in the 55th minute, but Tambwe made amends to his earlier misses with a trademark goal in the 81th minute, dashing Toto Africans hopes of salvaging a draw.
Msuva scored his second goal of the evening in the 90th minute after connecting a deft pass from Andrey Coutinho.
