Dar es Salaam. The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has said the successful hosting of the CAF Confederation Cup final is a clear indication that the island has the capacity to organize major international football tournaments.
The final, held for the first time at the newly renovated New Amaan Complex, saw Morocco’s RS Berkane crowned champions. RS Berkane secured the title with a 3-1 aggregate victory, following a 2-0 win in the first leg held in Morocco.
ZFF secretary general Hussein Ahmada Vuai expressed pride in the successful organization of the final, saying it showcased Zanzibar's potential and helped elevate its profile internationally.
“This success has brought us immense pride. It proves that Zanzibar is capable of hosting major tournaments on the African continent and beyond,” said Vuai.

He commended the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar under President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi for its significant investment in upgrading the New Amaan Complex.
Vuai stressed that Africa and the world now recognize the New Amaan Complex as a world-class facility fit for major competitions.
“The successful hosting of the Confederation Cup final is a major achievement and clearly demonstrates our readiness to host tournaments like CHAN. The stadium is still in excellent condition even after the final, and CAF inspectors are welcome to visit anytime,” he said.
Beyond international recognition, Vuai added that ZFF has also gained valuable experience from organizing the final, which distinguishes it from previous efforts.

“This final has opened new doors for us in terms of endorsements and increased trust in our ability to organize large-scale events. There was a large delegation present, and ZFF being the sole football governing body in Zanzibar was fully involved.
Our officials from all departments participated in the preparations until the final whistle. We’re no longer new to this; we’ve gained the needed experience,” said Vuai.
He also said the event has inspired Zanzibar's clubs and players to aim higher in CAF competitions, demonstrating that it’s possible to reach the final stages.
“There’s been a great motivational boost among players. I believe next season’s Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns will be highly competitive,” he said.
Vuai further praised local football fans who turned up in numbers to watch the final, despite Tanzania not securing a favorable result.
“Admittedly, the result was disappointing, but that’s football. It’s part of the game. We must now regroup and prepare better for future finals,” he concluded.
