Five Agriculture ministry officials die in Manyoni crash

Dar es Salaam. Five civil servants from the Ministry of Agriculture were killed in a car crash in Manyoni, Singida Region on Sunday, October 21, 2018, authorities have confirmed.

Four officers and a driver from the Ministry of Agriculture died when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed with a truck at Njirii area, Manyoni in Singida.

The officials were travelling from Dodoma to Shinyanga while the truck that was travelling from Kigali, Rwanda to Dar es Salaam.

“All the government officials died on the spot while the truck driver sustained minor injuries,” the Singida Regional Police Commander (RPC) Sweetbert Njewike told The Citizen on Sunday, noting that the accident took place at around 11:00am.

He could not provide identities of the dead and the survivor.

Eye witnesses, he said, have told him that the accident occurred when the driver for the vehicle carrying government officials wanted to overtake several trucks without taking precautions.

“That was how he ended up colliding with the truck,” he said.
