Tech to improve public service delivery

Dar es Salaam. The minister for Industry and Trade, Mr Charles Mwijage, has urged public institutions to apply a special files keeping technology in a bid to avoid loss of government documents.

He observed that keeping and retrieving files was a big challenge in the public sector which led to delays in decision making and the provision of services.

The minister said this shortly after he launched an exhibition of record keeping gadgets and other products by Junaco Limited Supplies firm based in the country in collaboration with Kardex Remstar based in Cyprus.

He said he was optimistic the record keeping products would go a long way in improving public service provision in Tanzania.

“I call upon government institutions and parastatals and all those involved in record keeping to visit the two-day exhibition for the country to adopt the technology,” Mr Mwijage said.

The Kardex Ramstar Africa Zone director, Mr Demetris Kouloundis, said the technology was user-friendly and capable of keeping many files using a small space.

It is a computerised system, which calles for a password to retrieve files. It greatly reduces red tape, he said. “It’s the surest way of keeping essential documents including confidential contracts with employees,” said Mr Kouloundis, adding that the gadgets indicated whoever retrieved files, day and time.
