The ban the government recently slapped on political rallies and demonstrations is high on the two-day Chadema’s Central Committee meeting agenda

Dar es Salaam. Chadema’s Central Committee (CC) meeting will debate 16 key issues during its two-day meeting that started here yesterday.

Reliable sources in the CC told The Citizen that debated issues were related to the ongoing political situation in the country, since the fifth phase government assumed office in November last year.

He said among the 16 agenda included the country’s economic situation facing the citizens, deteriorating democracy and statements issued by the government that have brought confusion among Tanzanians.

“After an intensive discussion on the said issues, Chadema will come out with resolutions that will state the party’s position eight months after the fifth phase government assumed office,” he said.

Chadema through its youth wing, Bavicha, and the elders wing has recently criticised President John Magufuli’s government for causing economic hardships facing the people. According to their assessment, the cost of living  has soared compared to eight months ago.

The party has also lambasted the government for appointing district and regional commissioners, district and regional secretaries as well as district, town, municipal and city council directors basing on political affiliations.

“People with required qualifications have been left behind simply because they are not CCM cadres. Some of the apoointees lack required qualities, but they have been picked to hold the posts just because they are CCM cadres,” Chadema presidential candidate during the last year’s General Election Edward Lowassa told Bavicha this week.

The main opposition party has also been criticising the ban President Magufuli imposed on political activities, pending the forthcoming General Election in 2020, as they complain of being denied a platform CCM directly enjoying through several activities DC’s, RC’s, ministers and their deputies carried out daily.

When the Police ban on demonstrations and rallies ensued, the Opposition further blamed the government for using state organs for suprresing it.

“Much as CCM elected its  new national chairman yesterday, its tradition to introduce him to the public through a political rally slated for Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma will test the Police Force’s integrity in serving the nation equally” Mr Lowassa said.
