Information minister to grace World Radio Day in Dodoma

Dar es Salaam. The Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Dr Harrison Mwakyembe is expected to grace the World Radio Day commemorations in Dodoma on Tuesday February 13.

The event, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in collaboration with the Tanzania Development Information Organization (TADIO) brings together a network of community media in Tanzania.

Media stakeholders from Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar,are expected to attend according to a statement issued by Unesco on Tuesday February 13.

The statement said there would also be a training which would bring together 51 community media practioners from 24 UNESCO-supported community radios, covering 77.4 percent of all regions in Tanzania.

The training session will base on educating the community radio practitioners on Editorial, Programming and Monitoring on Issues of Local Concern.

The commemorations would also be used as a platform to address the do’s and don’ts of online journalism, the status of online Content Regulations of 2017 as well as sports development.

The theme for the World Radio Day 2018 is “Radio and Sports where its focus is on Diversity in Sports Coverage, Gender Equality in Sports, Coverage and Peace Development through Sports Coverage.”

As part of the event, Unesco is highlighting a project that aims at strengthening the sustainability and capacities of 25 community radios across Tanzania by enhancing their role as social service providers, increasing their geographical range of local news, and strengthening their capacity.
