Home Affairs minister Dr Mwigulu Nchema told the Parliament on Thursday that the proposal is in the next finance bill to also reduce accidents caused by the bodaboda drivers who run away from police for fear of high fines.

Dodoma. The government has proposed reduction of fines that bodaboda drivers pay to differentiate them from other motor vehicles.

Home Affairs minister Dr Mwigulu Nchema told the Parliament on Thursday that the proposal is in the next finance bill to also reduce accidents caused by the bodaboda drivers who run away from police for fear of high fines.

"We will differentiate the fines for bodaboda, mini buses and buses as we try to make fines a punishment and not a source of revenue," said Dr Nchemba.

He was responding to a supplementary question by Mr Goodluck Mlinga (Ulanga -CCM) who asked the government to include fines differences in the coming review of road safety regulations.

"When a bodaboda which carries one passenger violates road regulations,  it's fined Sh30,000 and the same to a bus which carries 60 passengers. This is unfair," said Mr Mlinga.

Dr Nchemba said the government was reviewing the road safety regulations and the process was at advanced stages.
