Tanzania's Aviation boss scoops new international role

Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) Director General Hamza Johari

Dar es Salaam. The global organisation responsible for air traffic management has confirmed Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) director general Hamza Johari as the new Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (Canso) chairman for Africa for the period of three years.

Mr. Johari was appointed in the Canso meeting AFC3 on 5th March 2018 in Madrid, Spain. The confirmation was made yesterday (Tuesday), June 12 during the Canso 22nd Annual General Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand.

As the organisation's chairman for Africa, Mr. Johari has become a member of the Canso executive committee (Excom) -- the governing organ of this important international organisation.

The USA Federal Aviation Administration chief operating officer, Ms Teri Bristol, continues to be the Canso global chairperson, assisted by Rudy Keller from Canada at a capacity of the vice chairman.

Other members are Martin Rolfe from England, Klaus -Dieter Scheurle - Germany, Hamza Johari - Tanzania, Mark Cooper- England, Augustin Rodrigues Grellet - Agentina, Jan Klas - Czech Republic, Don Thoma - USA,  Dr Saleh Al Ghamdi - Saudi Arabia, Kevin Shum - Singapore and Captain Gilbert Kibe - Kenya.

The Excom meets four times a year to spearhead the strategic direction of air traffic management and other policy issues to ensure safe and efficient global air transport.

The management of Canso is headed by its director general, Mr Jeff Poole, who works with other staff of the Secretariat to ensure Excom directives and strategies are implemented.
