Magufuli lauds the Tanzania Scouts Association

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has commended the Tanzania Scouts Association (TSA) for their voluntary work that went along away to offer relief to the needy members of the public.

Dr Magufuli said he was especially impressed with disaster relief and support services the group has been offering in the country. He cited the perennial flooding in Dar es Salaam and the recent ferry disaster in Ukerewe district that killed 228 people.

 “I remember seeing Mr Shah, (former Mafia MP, Abdulkarim) participating in the evacuation of flood victims in Dar es Salaam in 2011 and he did good,” he said, hailing the spirit that the movement instills on its members.   

The president was speaking on Wednesday, October 03, at State House after swearing in the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Fariji Kasidi Mnyepe, and the Chief Scout Mwantumu Mahiza.

“Ms Mahiza has worked in government in various positions…. I trust you and I assure TSA of my support,” said Dr Magufuli.

Speaking at the same function, the association’s board of trustee member, former president Ali Hassan Mwinyi, called upon TSA to discharge its duties as a calling so that they may leave a positive legacy.

“Life is like a book. Let us write good stories that will interest others,” said Mr Mwinyi, noting that he admired Dr Magufuli’s work as a leader.

The Tanzania National Scouts Council leader Prof Joyce Ndalichako who doubles as the minister of education said the association has a role to model youth into becoming responsible patriots.

Ms Mahiza said her priority will be to reach out to youth in colleges and higher learning institutions during her four-year tenure.

“We will also work towards ensuring the main youth camping center in Dodoma is completed,” she said.
