Dodoma. At least 51 secondary and primary school girls in Dodoma Municipality have been reported pregnant between January and August this year said Dodoma District Commissioner Christina Mndeme.

Out of the 51 students, whose education journey has been cut short, 45 were in secondary school. “It is very discouraging that such a high number of girls have been forced out of school due to pregnancies. I’m working around the clock to address the situation, including taking the men who defiled the girls to court,” she said.

The DC said most of the girls are aged between 13 and 16 and underscored the need for parents in the municipality to closely cooperate with teachers to prevent more pregnancies.

She also directed head teachers of primary and secondary schools to sensitise their students on the dangers of unsafe sex.
