Alternative budget will not be read in Parliament today

Dodoma. The opposition bench will not present its views on the budget (the alternative budget) in Parliament today, (Monday, June 18, 2018) as planned, the Order Paper shows.

The paper – on which the day's business for a legislative assembly is entered – shows that after the Question and Answer Session, the Parliament business will proceed with the presentation of the budget views of the Parliamentary Budget Committee.

After the committee chairperson, Ms Hawa Ghasia presents the group’s views, legislators will proceed with debating Tanzania’s Sh32.5 trillion budget which was presented in the House by the Finance and Planning Minister, Dr Phillip Mpango, on Thursday last week.

On Saturday, June 16, 2018, the leader of opposition in Parliament, Mr Freeman Mbowe told journalists here that the Shadow Finance Minister, Ms Halima Mdee would present the minority side’s view on the budget today, Monday, June 18, 2018.

That would have been the first time for the minority side to air its official views since the Parliament's budget sessions started almost two months ago.
