Pharmaceutical student association launches breast cancer awareness campaign

Dodoma. Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association (TAPSA) has organised awareness campaign over the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

October is breast cancer awareness month, which is an international health campaign to increase understandingof the disease.

TAPSA’s President, Mr Erick Venant, said in Thursday,October 19 that the campaign will involve series of activities targeted to raise awareness on how to avert contracting the diseases, especially among women.

“Tomorrow (Friday, October 20) we are expecting to conduct awareness activities at Kikuyu area in Dodoma municipality targeting the Kikuyu society particularly women,” he expressed.

He added that the event slated to take place at Kikuyu Dispensary grounds will be served by various health experts.

“We have invited several key health workers to come and impart the people there with useful health knowledge on how to prevent themselves from getting breast cancer, but also, the importance of early detection of breast cancer,” Mr Venant added.

He detailed that TAPSA has also organized the similar events in Iringa, Arusha and Moshi.

"Early diagnosis remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control. We want our mothers and sisters to wake up before its too late and if symptoms are caught early enough treatments can be effective,” he said.
