The Singida East MP, Tundu Lissu is reported to be in critical condition after catching chest infection at a Nairobi hospital where he is going treatment.
Chadema secretary general, Dr Vincent Mashinji, told reporters in Dar es Salaam today September 12 that report from Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi said that his two legs were serious injured by the bullets.
Because of lying down for long time Mr Lissu has also caught chest infection, forcing doctors to put him on breathing machine.
"Mr Lissu is very sick, we need your prayers and his treatment may take too long because of complications of injuries he sustained,” said Dr Mashinji.
Dr Mashinji’s statement comes shortly after Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Job Ndugai, informed the august house that the condition of the outspoken MP was progressing well.
Meanwhile, Chadema deputy chairman, Prof Abdallah Safari, said they need independent investigator to probe the incident because the party do not trust local police officer.
"We do not trust our government and police officers that they will be impartial or thorough in investigating what we regard as assassination attempt,” he said.
