Lukuvi visits Mara Region to resolve land disputes

Musoma. The Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlement Development, Mr William Lukuvi has started a working visit in Mara Region where he is expected to find solutions to land disputes haunting the region.

Mr Lukuvi’s visit to Mara is a response to President John Magufuli’s directives which he issued during a recent visit in three Lake Zone Regions; Mwanza, Mara and Simiyu.

Mr Lukuvi is expected to meet various people including, Ms Nyasasi Masige, an elderly residing in Bunda District who had complained before President Magufuli that her land had been grabbed by an unscrupulous trader in the district.

She told the President that her efforts to seek for justice had hit the block, something that forced Dr Magufuli to make a live call to Mr Lukuvi to get clarification on how the ministry had handled the matter.

President Magufuli directed Mr Lukuvi to suspend the Lake Zone Lands Commissioner for failure to ensure justice prevailed and that Ms Masige’s issue is resolved.

Mr Lukuvi fulfilled the Dr Magufuli’s directives by suspending the Lake Zone Lands Commissioner, Mr Joseph Shewiyo pending investigation effectively from September 5, this year.

Apart from Ms Masige who will be visited on Monday, September 17, Mr Lukuvi is expected to visit two other elderly women residing in Musoma Municipality whose names couldn’t be found immediately.

The two had reported to the minister that their pieces of land had been grabbed.

The minister will also meet a group of 37 people in Musoma who had channeled their land troubles to the minister.

Mr Lukuvi is expected to tour three districts namely; Bunda, Musoma and Tarime.

Concluding his Lake Regions tour, President Magufuli directed regional, district and ministries executives to amicably find solutions to various land disputes.
