Minister unaware of Polepole's directive

What you need to know:

Mr Kakunda made the statement during a parliamentary session in Dodoma on Thursday, June 14, when responding to a supplementary question by Kigoma Urban Member of Parliament, Mr Kabwe Zitto, (ACT-Wazalendo).

Dodoma. Deputy Minister for the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) Joseph Kakunda said he was unaware over claims that the CCM secretary of Ideology and Publicity, Mr Humphrey Polepole, restricted implementation of by-laws passed by Kigoma Ujiji councilors.

Mr Kakunda made the statement during a parliamentary session in Dodoma on Thursday, June 14, when responding to a supplementary question by Kigoma Urban Member of Parliament, Mr Kabwe Zitto, (ACT-Wazalendo).

In his question, Mr Kabwe sought the government’s comment following restrictions imposed by Mr Polepole on the implementation of the new by-law, which set new levy rates.

According to Mr Kabwe, the by-law was endorsed by the council of the Kigoma councillors and signed by the minister of the respective docket.

Responding to Mr Kabwe’s question, Mr Kakunda said: “What the PO-RALG and the district commissioner are aware of is that the councillors passed the levy rates. However, we know nothing about claims that Mr Kabwe is raising, but I will make a follow up on it in order to establish the truth.”
