Probe launched into botched water plan

Ukerewe. The District Council has launched an investigation of councillors accused of negligence in overseeing a Sh10.9 billion water project in Nansio Ward.

Council chairman George Machela revealed Wednesday that a probe team has been formed to determine why the project was below standard.

The project funded by the African Development (AfDB) through a loan was implemented by Angelique Development International Limited. 

The council borrowed the money to build water reservoirs for residents. But there are complaints that the work is sub-standard, and some councillors are accused of having undermining the project.

The Mwanza Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (Mwauwasa) is also under investigation.
