Six nabbed for embezzling North Mara gold mine projects funds

Musoma. Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) is holding for misappropriation of Sh35 billion, which was meant to benefit five villages surrounding North Mara Gold Mine.

When addressing Tarime residents, President Magufuli ordered the authority to search for Keng'anya Enterprises (KEL), the contractor hired to implement the projects, misappropriation of the funds set aside for the project.

Speaking to The Citizen’s sister paper Mwananchi at his office, PCCB Regional Commander Alex Kuhanda, said six people have already being arrested and interrogated since the order was issued. However, he declined to reveal their identities.

He further explained that PCCB is continuing with its investigation, which according to him might take up to two months.

“Apart from holding the six people for interrogations we will go through various documents to build a case against the culprits,” said Mr Kuhanda.

North Mara Gold mine started to release the amount since 2005 to fund development projects in five villages surrounding the mine.
