JKT coach elated after win in league

JKT coach Alfred Ngalalija has showered praise on his players following their convincing victory over Manyara in the National Basketball League match.

“My players performed impressively in today’s game. We were up against spirited opponents as those who witnessed it can attest,” Ngalalija said after the match. The army side beat Manyara 99-70 in an exciting match at the National Basketball League (NBL) on Monday night. Basketball enthusiasts at the venue had much fun as both teams pressed up front in turn in the first quarter to the delight of their supporters, who were on their toes throughout the game. JKT’s efforts earned them a 22-18 first quarter lead before recording a 25-20 win the second quarter.

They returned for the third quarter still looking hungry for points and marched to a 23-15 victory.

In the fourth quarter, they did not stop pressing the Manyara team area. Their efforts were rewarded with a 29-17 win. Mussa Chacha was the top scorer for JKT after posting 22 points. Teammate Mbaraka Sadick added 20.

Manyara’s Khalifa Said was a notable player for his team with 18 points, while Julius Ally had 15. Earlier, Ukonga Queens laboured to down Vijana Queens 68-61 in the women’s series at the same venue. Ukonga Queens took the first quarter 16-15 lead after a tight battle before winning the second 20-18.

Vijana Queens came out a more aggressive side in the third quarter and briefly took the game to their opponents.

They, however, slightly lost steam later to lose the last two quarter 15-14 and 17- 14 respectively.

Vijana Queens’ Hadija Kalambo posted 16 points and teammates Johari Haruni and Sara John added 13 and 12 respectively.

Jesca Ngisaisye was instrumental to Ukonga Kings’ victory, posting 18 points.
