Dar es Salaam. Simba SC assistant coach Jackson Mayanja believes that an emphatic 3-1 win over Ndanda FC will spur them to a glorious season.

Mayanja, who guided Simba to a third place in the last season as a stand-in coach, said he can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“It is good to start on a high note. This victory has lifted the spirits of players, so we are looking forward to good of results,” the Ugandan said.

“The team is starting to gel as a unit and we should have scored many goals on Saturday. We are all impressed with the performance of the team, but we hope that the boys will perform even in the next matches.”

Simba have not won the league for the past four season, but look genuine contenders for the title considering the players they have drafted in.

Laudit Mavugo, Shiza Kichuya and Fredrick Blagnon, all new players, found the back of the net to give the Msimbazi Reds maximum points.

Simba captain Jonas Mkude was also impressed after making a flying start to the league and called on their fans to rally behind them as they embark on a mission to snap their title draught.

“It feels good to make such an exciting start to the season. Ndanda were tough to break, but we are happy that we managed to down them and get three points,” he said.

Ndanda’s consolation goal came from Omary Mponda, who was set through by his captain, Kigi Makasi.

“It was a difficult match, but we managed to trouble them in the first half. We came with intention win the points at stake, but Simba took advantage of our defensive lapses to punish us,” said Makasi.

“We have taken positives from our defeat because we are in a transition, but after a few matches I believe that we will be a formidable force.”

The league continues on Wednesday when Toto Africans take Mwadui FC at Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

Simba will swing back to action on Saturday with a date against JKT Ruvu at the National Stadium.
