Zakaria’s case for hearing again on August 10

Musoma. An economic sabotage case facing a Lake Zone prominent businessman, Peter Zakaria, will be heard again on August 10, this year, together with a death threat case.

In the economic sabotage case Zakaria is accused of owning a firearm contrary to the country’s laws. In another case, Zakaria is accused of threatening to kill three people, who are thought to be intelligence officers, who arrived at his Petro filling station.

Speaking on July 26, Mara Region’s state attorney, Samuel Lukelo, alleged that investigations into the cases were incomplete and that the Musoma  Resident Magistrate’s Court had no legal authority to grant bail to the accused over economic sabotage cases.

Lukelo further told the court that the businessman through his lawyers could make an application for bail from the High Court while the investigations into the cases were ongoing.

On July 12, this year, the charge of economic sabotage was read to the businessman in the court after he was granted bail in the death threat case.

Despite being granted bail, the accused was remanded because the court had no legal authority to hear economic sabotage cases.
