Govt orders DCs, DEDS to tackle child loitering

  • The order was issued in Parliament on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 by the deputy minister of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Joseph Kakunda.

Dodoma. The government has instructed all district commissioners and district executive directors to arrest children loitering in streets.

In the instruction, it was also directed that parents or guardians of the said children should be taken to court in accordance with the Education Act, 1978, (166) (167) and (169 A).

The order was issued in Parliament on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 by the deputy minister of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Joseph Kakunda.

He elaborated that DCs and DEDs should undertake the task under the supervision of regional commissioners, who are chairpersons of regional defence and security committees.

"It does not sound okay seeing children wondering aimlessly in the streets, some begging or causing chaos, this is unacceptable,” said Mr Kakunda.

He was responding to a question by Kiembe Samaki Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ali Raza (CCM) who sought to know when the government would remove baggers from the streets of commercial city of Dar es Salaam.
