Kikwete to represent Magufuli at Mnangagwa inauguration

Former President Jakaya Kikwete

Dar es Salaam. Former President Jakaya Kikwete will represent President John Magufuli at the swearing-in event of Zimbabwe president-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The event will be held on Sunday, August 26, at the national stadium in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare.

According to a statement released by State House Presidential Communications Directorate director Gerson Msigwa on Saturday, August 25, Mr Kikwete will be accompanied by CCM Vice Chairman (Mainland) Phillip Mangula and United Democratic Party (UDP) Chairman John Cheyo.

Mr Mnangagwa was announced the winner in the election held on July 30 by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the results that were also upheld on Friday, August 24 by the Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court (ConCourt).

He is taking over from former President Robert Mugabe who resigned in November 2017 after serving as Zimbabwe leader for 37 years.
