Minister orders the arrest of Chato water project contractor

Chato. Water and Irrigation minister, Prof Makame Mbarawa has ordered the arrest of Bardwin Nzerani a ciontractor who handled the Imalabupina- Inchankwima water project in Chato district.

Prof Mbarawa issued the directive on Friday, April 19 during a one-day visit to the water project which is worth Sh8.2 billion and meant to serve 11 villages inChato district.

“There are several projects that have not been completed due to poor performance of contractors,” he said

Ndeenengo Senguo Co.Ltd, a contractor Bardwin Nzerani said the main reason for the delay was due to the fact that the project was expanded from two to 11 villages which necessitated them to go back to the negotiation table.

According to Nzeran the import permit also was delayed for 18 months and it was not until March 2019 when were granted approval to import the pumps from Germany.

However, Chato MP who is also minister for Energy Dr Merdad Kalemani said the challenge of the project is not fund but the experts themselves.

Dr Kalemani said the project which started in 2017 was supposed to be completed by June 2018.

Most rural areas in the district are faced with the challenge of safe and clean water.
