Mbeya. NMB Bank Plc will issue a total of Sh1 billion to community-based projects during the 2019 calendar year, a senior official said yesterday.

The money, to be sourced from its net profit, will be specifically channeled towards improving education and health services and facilities across the country, the bank’s southern highland zone manager, Mr Straton Chilongola, said yesterday.

He was speaking at Mwasanga Primary School here during an event to present desks and building equipment to some schools and hospital beds and mattresses for Mbalizi Designate District hospital.

The materials are valued at Sh25 million in total.

“We are doing this because we understand the importance of education and health in the economic development of our nation. We have a responsibility of helping our community,” he said.

The Mbeya District commissioner, Mr Paul Ntinika, asked the pupils to take care of the desks.

He called upon parents to ensure that they enrolled their pupils for studies.

According to the Mwasanga Primary School head teacher, Mr Keneth Amon, the school is challenged by the high number of pupils in classes due to a shortage of classrooms.
