The Police Force has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that one of its officer is in Nairobi to spy on Mr Tundu Lissu.

The firebrand lawmaker was shot outside his area D home in Dodoma last Thursday September 7, by unknown attackers who allegedly used a white Nissan Patrol.

He is still recuperating at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where he was evacuated for special medical attention.

However, according to Barnabas Mwakalukwa, the Police Force spokesperson, the reports that the Force has sent one of its officers to spy on Lissu in Nairobi are false.

“We are conducting our works in line with the rule of law and we are shocked and saddened by people who seek popularity through distorting the image of the Police Force and the government in general,” said Mr Mwakalukwa during a press briefing today September 12, at the Police Force headquarters.

He said that it was true that the police officer in question was in Nairobi but he was there for training which started on September 4 and ended on September 8. He has since then returned home.

“The incident (Mr Lissu’s attack) took place on seventh this month and our police officer was in Nairobi since fourth, can’t anyone see how illogical is the argument?” argued Mr Mwakalukwa

Information about the spying police officer were circulating on social networks particularly on the account of Chadema women wing (Bawacha) Chairperson, Ms Halima Mdee.

“They say he’s a spy of Interpol Tanzania and he is in Nairobi suburbs. We already know you…watch out…,” wrote Ms Mdee in her Twitter account attaching the photo of the police officer she alleges.

Mr Mwakalukwa urged citizens to ignore the information and avoid commenting on it as it may cause them harm.
