Dar es Salaam. Six people have been charged afresh at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court for allegedly killing Constitution Review Committee (CRC) member, Dr Sengondo Mvungi.

Those arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate Augustina Mmbando include Msigwa Matonya (35), Mianda  Mlewa(45), Paulo Mdonondo(35), Longishu Losindo(34), Juma Kangungu(34) and John Mayunga (60).

The Public Prosecutor (PP), Ms Lilian Rwetabula, told the court that the suspects allegedly killed Dr Mvungi on November 3, 2013 contrary to Section 196 of the Criminals Procedure Act (CPA).

She demanded that on that day the accused collectively committed the offence at Msakuzi Kiswegere Area in Kinondoni District.

The accused were not allowed to respond to charges levelled against them as the court lacked jurisdictions to preside over the case.

However, one of the accused pleaded with the magistrate that investigation of the court should be speeded as the case was not new.

Earlier, the case was at high court before Judge Sam Rumanyika, but it was dismissed under section 91 (1) of the CPA after the government expressed intention to discontinue with the case.

The case was adjourned to December 6, 2018 and the accused were taken back to custody.
