SBC Tanzania to sponsor the junior swimming championships

Dar es Salaam. SBC Tanzania (Pepsi) will sponsor the second edition of the Tanzania Junior Swimming Championships to be held at the International School of Tanganyika (IST), Upanga in the city at the weekend.

The event will feature under 12 swimmers in four age categories. The age groups are under seven , eight and nine, 10 and 11  and 12 . Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, SBC Tanzania Market Activation Manager, Roselyne Bruno said the beverage company has taken all key responsibilities for the event which include promotion and giving international experience to budding swimmers. Roselyne spoke highly of the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) management for developing the game, saying  that was the reason why they decided to sponsor the event. “We commend the efforts by TSA to promote and develop the game in the country.

The new leadership has done a lot since they took over. “We will see our sons and daughters showcasing their skills in the event, this is a milestone for the game,” said Roselyne. TSA secretary general, Inviolata Itatiro thanked Pepsi for the support, which she said will go a long way to develop the game in the country.

Inviolata said the event will bring together swimmers from various parts of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Swimmers will compete in five swimming styles.

She said that trophies will be awarded to the top three swimmers in each age group while medals will be given for the top three swimmers. The medals are gold, silver and bronze for the first, second and third winners respectively.

“Points will be allocated for first to 10th places. The top swimmer will get 20 points, second 16, third 14 points, fourth (12 points), fifth (10 points), sixth (8 points), seventh (6 points), eighth (4 points), ninth (2 points) and 10th will get one point,” said inviolata. She appealed to private and government institutions to support the event.
