SuperSport acquires rights to air live SportPesa Cup

Tanzania, which hosts the tournament, will be represented by four teams namely Yanga, Simba, Mbao and Singida United

Dar es Salaam. Football lovers across the East Africa region will kick-off the year with a local football frenzy as SuperSport confirms acquisition of the rights to air live SportPesa Cup games as the official pay TV partner of the tournament, scheduled to kick off from January 22 to 27 at the National Stadium.

The SportPesa Cup is a premium football asset consisting of 8 teams in a knockout format and will feature leading teams from Kenya and Tanzania. This will be a week which Football lovers will witness serious battle from East Africa’s football giants including the rivals Simba and Young Africans (Yanga) from Tanzania and AFC Leopard and Gor Mahia from Kenya as they battle for the prestigious title as well as a chance to face one of the world’s famous football team – Everton FC from England.

Speaking about the agreement, MultiChoice Tanzania Managing Director, Jacqueline Woiso, said by being the official partner, SuperSport will air all the matches live on SuperSport 9 – DStv Channel 209. “We are delighted to once again bring you this tournament live on DStv. This is in line with our core commitment of giving Tanzanians unmatched entertainment experience”.

All the matches will be live on DStv Bomba the lowest package, giving hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians an opportunity to enjoy one of the fiercely contested regional football tournament.

SportPesa Tanzania Director of Administration and Compliance Tarimba Abbas said “since the launch of the tournament three years ago, SportPesa Cup has enjoyed a huge success from year to year and at the same attracting hundreds of fans across East Africa considering that the winner of the tournament has been playing with one of the greatest clubs in English football –Everton FC. For that reason, we have decided to partner with Dstv through SuperSport in order to give our tournament a wide viewership for it will be attracting viewers from all over the world.

 

This is a big move as our players will be able to display their soccer skills hence attract soccer scouts around the world. I call upon participating teams to field their best players because apart from getting exposure ahead of their international and premier matches, the players will have an opportunity to showcase their skills,” said Tarimba.

 

The 2019 edition will feature Simba FC, Young Africans Football Club, Singida United FC and Mbao FC from Tanzania and Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Bandari FC and Kariobangi Sharks from Kenya.
