Taliss-IST win top honours at Dar tourney

Dar es Salaam. Hosts Taliss-IST emerged overall winners of the 2019 Taliss Swimming Championship over the weekend.

They scored 2,422 points to retain the top honour for the fifth time in a row at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) swimming pool.

Swimmers from eight clubs battled for medals in the two-day championship, which came to a close on Sunday.

The tough but thrilling event saw Taliss-IST recording 1,118 and 1,304 points in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.

It was the second title for the club this year. Last month, the Dar es Salaam-based club won the Morogoro Invitational Swimming Championship. The championship took place at the Morogoro International School’s swimming pool. Mwanza Swimming Club (MSC) finished runner-up at the Taliss Championship with 1,388 points. The Mwanza swimmers amassed 702 and 686 points in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.

The third place went to Bluefins of Dar es Salaam, who collected a total of 1,181 points. They scored 587 points in the women’s category and 594 in the men’s series. International School of Moshi (Arusha wing) finished fourth with 845 points, while Dar es Salaam Swimming Club (DSC) finished fifth after scoring 646 points.

Morogoro’s Mis Piranhas finished sixth with 630 points while FK Blue Marlins of Dar es Salaam was seventh after collecting 502 points.

Zanzibar’s Wahoo finished eighth with 292 points and Champions Rise collected 141 points to finish ninth in the thrilling event.

Speaking to reporters after the championship, Taliss-IST Club manager Hadija Shebe said she was happy with the manner in which the hosts (Taliss-IST) retained the title.

“It was a very good performance. We successfully retained the title for the fifth time in a row,” said Hadija.
