Dar es Salaam. The Wami/Ruvu Water Basin intends to sue several companies after they allegedly failed to pay the required fees for their operations.

Briefing journalists on Monday, November 19,  Mr Simon Ngonyani,  the authority’s water officer said that in September, all the companies were ordered to settle their outstanding fee debts by today, only 98 have so far responded positively.

"Over Sh200 million is yet to be paid by the remaining companies and hotel facilities, it is now time to act on these,” he said.

Mr Ngonyani further elaborated that the Wami/Ruvu Basin has already received some Sh400 million from Dawasa, that was owed to the authority.

"This is what is expected of all our clients, some are not doing this,” he said.

He warned that come Wednesday, managements of some 100 hotels and 25 oil firms would be dragged to court for failure to fulfill their financial obligations.

"We’ll set an example to all our clients by using these firms that have been neglecting their duty even after being reminded over the same,” he said.
