Dar/Upcountry. NEC's announcement of Dr John Magufuli’s victory in the presidential race has been received with jubilation, mainly from Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) supporters around the country.
Supporters crowded the streets shortly after NEC chairman, Judge Damian Lubuva announced that Dr Magufuli had won 8.8 million votes, beating seven other contestants including his main challenger, Mr Edward Lowassa of Chadema who obtained 6.07 million votes.
University of Dar es Salaam Don, Prof Kitila Mkumbo congratulated Dr Magufuli and his party decision to back him given the competition he weathered during the campaigns.
“This election is different from the past and candidates did a lot of work to win. However, winning is one thing as he now has an uphill task to fulfill what he had promised Tanzanians. But the most important job which he should start with is uniting Tanzanians,” he said.
