In 2014 Idris Sultan became the last winner of Big Brother Africa and since then his stakes have continued to rise making him one of the most sought after entertainers in the country.

His appearance in some of the biggest events on the continent has won him many admirers both locally and abroad.

One of those was his role in an award winning film Kiumeni which once again proved that he had become of age, in the process earning him a role in a Hollywood film.

To prove his metamorphosis, Idris Sultan has been invited to attend a great concert of comedy organized by Comedy Central, one of the largest institutions in the comedy and humour industry.

The invitation comes after his debut in a comic tour which was titled ‘Sex Tour Festival’ which attracted thousands of comedy fans in Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

According to him the invitation is a great tribute to the nation, after Bongo Flava success at international level, he believes that the moment has come for comedians to make that transition.

Comedy Central is an American pay television channel owned by Viacom Global Entertainment Group, a unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of Viacom.

The channel which is available to over 90 million households is geared for mature audiences and carries comedy programming in the form of original, licensed, and syndicated series and stand-up comedy specials, as well as feature films.

Since the early 2000s, Comedy Central has expanded globally with localized channels in Southeast Asia, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Middle East and Africa.

Speaking on the just-ended Sex Tour festival Idris said that the main aim was to entertain and educate people on various social issues through humour.

“On December 1, I organized the first Sex Tour concert in the Next Door Arena Hall. More than 7,000 people attended, with many grumbling missing ticket. Sex Tour becomes the biggest comedy festival ever in Tanzania and can be compared with some major music concerts,” says Idris.

Carrying the theme, “Without testing no changes in results” the festival was attended by various comedians including Jaymondy, Mkaliwenu, Dogo pepe, Coy Mzungu, Blackpass, Kitenge, Nalimi ,Optalema Deo, Max, Young Unstopable , D comic and many others while the new generation music artists were well represented by Whozu and Billnass.

“The challenge of new infections among young people aged 15-24 are still high, so Sex Tour focuses mainly on advising young people regarding their health, not only being afraid to test but also to change the negative thinking in degrading people with infections, “ says Idris.

The Sex Tour festival was sponsored by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in collaboration with the US Embassy in Tanzania.
