Tanzania: Government to construct 14 health centres in Mwanza Region, Parliament told

Dodoma. The government disbursed Sh6 billion during 2017/18 and 2018/19 fiscal years for constructing 14 health centres and hospitals in Mwanza Region the deputy minister of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Josephat Kandege told MPs in Parliament on Monday, April 29.

He was responding to a question by Special Seats lawmaker Maria Kangoye (CCM), who sought to know the government's plans to improve health services for mothers and children in Mwanza.

According to the minister, during the current financial year the government disbursed Sh3 billion for constructing Ilemela and Buchosa district hospitals in Mwanza Region.

“The government will continue with its efforts to construct health centres and raise the number of health personnel to reduce maternal deaths," he added.

Official data show that one woman dies every hour from complications of pregnancy or childbirths because of living far from adequate services in Tanzania, according to the Maternal and Health Reproductive Programme report.
