After achievements recorded in revenue collections from May to July, this year from its mineral center, Mara region is expected to open three more centers in Tarime and Butiama districts.

Tarime. Tanzania Mara Region is expected to open three more centres for the trading of minerals as the country fosters its war on mineral smuggling.

The three centres – to be opened later this month in Tarime and Butiama districts - will bring the total number of mineral trading areas in the region to four.

Tabling the mining department report on August 4, 2019, the mineral officer for Mara Region, Mr Nyaisara Mgaya said the aim of opening the centers was to improve revenue collection.

This follows achievement recorded after the first center was opened in Musoma Urban.

“Over Sh698.6 million has been collected since the center was opened in terms of inspection fees and royalty after sale of 114, 111 grammes of minerals from May to July this year,” he said.

According to him, most of the required preparations for the opening of the centres have been completed.
