Magufuli directs officials in Lindi to return money they swindled

 Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has directed that all the money, that was deposited at the Lindi Regional Administrative Secretary (RAC) account by the National Health Insurance Fund by Sokoine Regional Hospital be returned.

The President who is on a tour of Lindi said that some Sh89 million was deposited in the RAC’s account in June 2018.

 “I want all the money deposited by NHIF at the Lindi RAC office account to be returned as quickly as possible,” said the President.

The President, who was speaking in Mtama, aslo directed that a vehicle, under donor funded programme, which was sold to the regional chief accountant to be returned to Sokoine Regional Hospital.

The President said that the vehicle was sold to the regional chief accountant despite the fact that the hospital doesn’t have a car.

He also directed regional executive, who allegedly used Sh49.5 million as allowance, when supervising a project to repair a children ward at the hospital, to refund the money.

“You can’t use Sh49.5 million as allowance to supervise a project, which is implemented in your area of jurisdiction; I want all those, who took the money to return as soon as possible,” said Mr Magufuli.

The President also revealed that the government has set aside Sh1.5 billion for construction of Mtama district hospital.

He warned officials, who will be implementing the project to make sure that all the money will be properly spent.
